A much better deal than paying 20 pounds to go up to The Shard, the building directly opposite.Ī really cool area/street mainly focusing on Indian & Pakistani food.

It’s free to go up, but you must reserve a free ticket & time online prior to your visit. It’s 34 levels up, with amazing views of London, a rainforest and three restaurants & bars, ranging from casual to semi-formal. The Sky Garden is an awesome new establishment on the top of the “Walkie Talkie” building. Highlights from East London & Shoreditch Sky Garden A young hip crowd of people with lots of bars, restaurants and graffiti-filled walls. Knowing how big London is, it was a treat to be able to see & stay in two entirely separate areas of London. Shoreditch reminded us of an area in NYC called Williamsburg. It took the same amount of time to fly from London to Scotland as it did to get from Richmond to Shoreditch!Ī high school friend we hadn’t seen in 4 years generously hosted us at her new apartment. From West to Eastįor our last week in the UK, we moved from the west side of London to the east – from Richmond to Shoreditch. Although the team we were going for (Liverpool) lost, the experience was everything. It was also fascinating to see the fans divided equally into the two sides of the stadium, to prevent any rivalries between them. Walking to our seats, we got goosebumps from the fan’s chanting & cheering. This was on our list of things to do so we were extremely fortunate to be given tickets to the game by a good great family friend, that included a four-course lunch and seats right behind the players. Dogs are welcome outside, but be aware you can’t reserve a table there. As mentioned in our last post, we headed back to London early from Ireland so we could watch the Liverpool vs Aston Villa semi-final football (soccer) match!

So if you click, you still have the whole day, and if you don’t, at least you just had a late, lazy, boozy weekend breakfast with bacon naan and masala beans.Įither way though, please don’t forget to tip your waiter. Which serves up excellent talking points, in the form of modern Indian cocktails like the Toddy Tapper (with mint and Ceylon arrack, topped with torched berries, fennel and chilli), and the Hoppy Butter Paanch (IPA beer, with whisky and butter syrup).ģ) The late breakfast on weekends. Thanks in large part to the dark wood, dim lighting, eclectic vintage decor, cozy corners, shaded outdoor verandah and, most of all, the intimate sharing plates like chilli, garlic and ginger marinated lamb leg languid mattar paneer and meltingly soft flaky roti for mopping up the sauce.Ģ) The ‘Permit Room’ bar. Rumour has it that you’d like to eat tikka basa fillet with infused yogurt and black pepper crumble while sipping rich, Indian-inspired cocktails like chilli martinis and sky-blue Bombay coladas inside a bustling, dimly-lit Irani café…īecause in a twist of fate and happy chance, we’d like to tell you about Dishoom Shoreditch: a grand, old Bombay-inspired Indian café/restaurant and cocktail lounge, serving up an all day collection of traditional Parsi and Southern Mumbai-style street food dishes.ĭishoom Shoreditch also happens to be the perfect date spot, for three reasons:ġ) It’s impressive without trying to be impressive.
